In May 2017, Aarhus municipality in Denmark announced that Scandic together with its partners had won a tender for a large new hotel project in Aarhus harbor. Scandic has now signed a lease agreement for the hotel which will offer 480 hotel rooms and 5,700 m2 of meeting space. The hotel is expected to open in 2024.
The hotel will be designed by world-renowned architect Bjarke Ingels from BIG architects. It will feature a unique design and spectacular views of the new Aarhus harbor district.
– We’re extremely proud that we will operate one of Denmark’s most attractive hotels and conference centers. With event space for more than 2,000 people, we’ll be able to meet the growing demand for meetings and events in Aarhus. It will be Denmark’s largest hotel outside of Copenhagen, confirming our continued growth in the Danish market, says Søren Faerber, Head of Scandic Denmark.
With a population of about 330,000, Aarhus is Denmark’s second largest city and good infrastructure has made the city easily accessible for domestic and international visitors alike. Today, Scandic has three hotels in the city and once the new hotel opens Scandic will reinforce the position as the leading hotel company in the area.
